Benet Wilson an African American aviation journalist who was a guest speaker in a professional news writing class at American University July 7th. She graduated from American University majoring in print journalism. Wilson works as the online managing editor for Aviation Week, and she also writes for other blogs and magazines.
During her speech she talked about how to be successful in the journalist field: start networking, start getting to know people and you need to have a brand. She also had us do an exercise to teach us how the lead tells people what the story is going to be about and how the lead has to capture the person.
Benet told us how it is very important to understand social media like Facebook, twitter and blogs. By being interactive with these sites you can widen your contacts.
