Last Thursday, on July 7th, our Discovering the World of Communication class met Benét Wilson; online managing editor for Aviation Week. Unfortunately she couldn’t appear in person but was able to speak to us on Skype. It helped show how new technology is very important for any journalist and especially for Benét Wilson, whose job it is to write online.
Her passion for planes and aviation were evident since her first plane ride to London, at the age of 8. It was then that Ms. Wilson knew that she wanted to work around planes.
Benét Wilson went on to be a trade journalist for 20 years, writing on a wide assortment of topics; including welfare reforms, economic development, and agriculture and agribusiness. She also held the positions of senior corporate communications at Delta Air Lines, Rolls-Royce North America, and Mesa Air Group.
Besides being the online manager for Aviation Week, Benét Wilson also writes for The Weekly of Business Aviation, the AviationWeek.com website, the business channel for the online Aviation Week intelligence network, and also contributes to Aviation Daily and The Things with Wings Blog.
Benét’s enthusiasm and enjoyments are seen through her blog, aviationqueen.com, which promotes her brand. As she states, “you are never too early to start your brand name process.” Benét Wilson has worked around planes her entire life and states that “They pay me to do my hobby.”
